The Dungeons and unicorns shirt in when my son was born. I had painted a mural on the walls of his nursery – and it was both a huge undertaking and a memorable time in my life. When I took him back to the same town for college I stopped by and asked if I could see the house. The new owner was not gracious, but she did let me in and took me to the bedroom that had been the nursery. She was using it for storage, but she said the paintings were so good she hadn’t had the heart to paint over them, so she decided they could stay. I was glad, as they represented so many hours of my time while I was pregnant with my one and only.
Fast forward a Dungeons and unicorns shirt, and I saw that house once more on a news program. The newscaster was standing in front of that house – while it burned in the Northern California Camp Fire. The only thing left of that house now are the photos I have, and the memories I cherish. But I’m really glad I had the chance to visit it again before it was literally gone in smoke. The final house I want to visit? My father’s parent’s house. He lived there from the time he got out of high school until he married my mom. It’s the house he came back to from Korea, and the house where we visited my grandparents until they left us.
